Ellie’s Day at the Shore

One summer day, Carol is talking to her great niece Ellie about what Ellie’s great grandma used to do as a child. Great Grandma spent summers at the shore. Liking what she hears, Ellie wants to go to the shore, too! Carol and Ellie head to the shore together, and while they’re there they discover all the wonderful creatures that live at the shore.

Ellie finds birds– piping plovers, least terns, and American oystercatchers― monarch butterflies, horseshoe crabs, and even a special kind of turtle called a terrapin!

“Ellie’s Day at the Shore” is an educational and nostalgic story that celebrates the simple joys of a day at the shore. Alongside splendid illustrations, this is the perfect book for children curious about seaside animals and the beach.

What a great way for kids to start learning about nature. I loved the rhyming and the story, but especially the “Do you want to know more?” information in the back.

This enlightening story is a captivating and adventurous treasure hunt for birds and shoreline animals on the beaches of Long Island Sound with beautiful illustrations. My grandson and I learned together as we enjoyed each page and marveled at how clever nature is. We can’t wait to go for our next stroll on the beach!

This is a most delightful journey to the shore with Ellie and her great aunt. It is informative and very fun with the “rotten rhymes” format. My five young granddaughters of varying ages were enthralled and begged me to take them to the shore to explore. I will definitely do that soon!
